We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Viewing Behaviour Data

When you use the App, we collect anonymised data about your viewing behaviour, including:

  • Gaze data (viewing hotspots): Where you look within the VR environment. This data is automatically anonymised and aggregated, meaning we never see individual user viewing patterns—only collective heatmaps showing where all users tend to look.
  • View counts: How many times the experience has been viewed.
  • Session duration: How long users typically spend in the experience.

This information helps us understand whether our visual storytelling is effective and improve the experience for future users.

2.2 Technical Information

We collect information about the device you use to access the App, including:

  • Device type and model: Which Meta Quest headset you’re using (e.g., Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest Pro)
  • App performance data
  • Crash reports and error logs

This helps us optimise the experience for different headset models and ensure compatibility.

2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not require you to create an account
  • We do not collect your name, email address, or contact information
  • We do not collect personally identifiable information
  • We do not track your identity across different apps or websites

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information solely to:

  • Analyse aggregated viewing patterns to improve content design
  • Monitor app performance and fix technical issues
  • Optimise the experience for different VR headset models
  • Understand general usage statistics
  • Enhance the overall user experience

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 Headjack

We use Headjack, a VR content management and hosting platform operated by Purple Pill VR B.V. (Netherlands), to deliver the App’s video content and collect the anonymised analytics described above. Headjack processes viewing data on our behalf and stores analytics using Google BigQuery.

For more information about Headjack’s data practices, please visit: https://headjack.io/files/privacy-policy-headjack.pdf

4.2 Meta Horizon Store

By downloading the App through the Meta Horizon Store, you are also subject to Meta’s privacy policy and terms of service. Meta may collect additional information about your use of VR apps on their platform.

For more information, please visit: https://www.meta.com/legal/quest/privacy-policy/

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information.

We may share anonymised, aggregated data with:

  • Our content development team to improve the experience
  • Business partners or clients for analytical purposes (statistics only, never individual user data)

We may disclose information if required by law or to:

  • Comply with legal processes or government requests
  • Protect our rights, property, or safety
  • Investigate potential violations of our terms of service

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect the information we collect. However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

Given that all user data we collect is anonymised and aggregated, the risk to your personal privacy is minimal.

7. Data Retention

Anonymised viewing behaviour data and usage statistics are retained indefinitely for analytical purposes, as this data cannot be linked back to individual users.

Technical logs and crash reports are retained for up to 12 months or until they are no longer needed for troubleshooting purposes.

8. Your Rights Under New Zealand Privacy Law

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

  • Access personal information we hold about you (though as noted, we do not collect personally identifiable information)
  • Request correction of any inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information
  • Lodge a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner if you believe your privacy has been breached

Given the anonymised nature of the data we collect, we cannot identify or delete information relating to specific individuals.

To exercise any of these rights or if you have questions, please contact us using the details at the top of this policy.

9. International Data Transfers

The App’s data is processed through Headjack’s infrastructure, which may involve data being stored or processed outside of New Zealand. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information in accordance with New Zealand privacy law.

10. Children’s Privacy

The App is designed for users aged 13 and over, consistent with Meta’s age requirements for VR headset use. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the App, please contact us.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will:

  • Update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
  • Post the revised policy in the App (if technically feasible)
  • Notify users through the Meta Horizon Store (if required)

We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
